Text Box: Tom Persia, DB56, Joins Chapter Eternal

Tom Persia, DB56, passed away on 24 June 2001 in Maryland of a massive heart attack. Tom had just become active again in the Alumni Chapter and had attended Rose Ball 2001.

I had the pleasure of spending three days with Tom at Rose Ball. He was a Brother with a big heart and a love of Pi Kappa Phi. Tom was a member of the founding pledge class for Delta Beta Chapter and his stories of what they went through to get our Chapter setup at North Georgia was an amazing story. You could tell as he told his tale that the love he had for our Fraternity and our College was genuine and deep.

I want to share part of his last email to me after Rose Ball to show you what kind of Brother Tom was-He will be missed.

“As I walked from the elevator, I felt like a man in need of life support. But when I approached the welcoming desk, there was PJ moving towards me. His welcome was like a jolt to my being and I felt alive again. But more than alive, I felt like I belonged there amongst my Brothers, my extended family. And I felt that way throughout the weekend and still now as I sit and type this email. Our Delta Beta Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi is different from other chapters because NGC graduates are different from other college graduates. Our shared experiences and our life long commitment to each other is bound by our integrity. Though it may dim with time and distance, it is instantaneously brightened by just a few moments in each other's presence. It is our duty to each other to keep the flame burning and to spread that flame to as many others as possible. So I encourage all to become more involved, not just financially, but physically. We can all stand to have our being recharged, to return home, and to feel again the acceptance, Brotherhood, trust, truth, and friendship that exists amongst and between all of us.
My the Lord of each of us preserve us, watch over us, and keep us until we all can come together again and share in our humanity and fraternity.”
